Staphylococcus
A diagnosis of the presence of staphylococcus is generally confirmed through the use of a culture grown of an appropriate specimen. Observation of the color, smell, clearance zone on the culture medium, or other tests helps determine the type of staphylococcus present. Relatively recently, a staph infection can be determined more quickly so that infection control actions can begin immediately. In some types of infections, prompt treatment is necessary to prevent further deterioration in the condition of the patient. Other infections
have milder results and may not require specific diagnosis or treatment.
